Sad to hear of the passing of Errol Brown (of Hot Chocolate fame to most people) at 71.
I met him a few times in the residency I had in UK in the 70s, at the time of the band’s greatest popularity. True gent, loved to chat with the staff and customers, sign autographs, had no pretensions, even though he was truly recognisable both in looks and style. Some of his songwriting (with Tony Wilson) addressed taboos of the 70s (Brother Louie, Rumours, Emma) when there was an air of social barriers being broken down.
Commercially an underrated songwriter, yet has made a lasting mark on music. I expect ‘you sexy thing’ will be one of those tracks pulled out in 50 years or so as representative of its era. But ‘Emma’ was my favourite.
